Sending Mail Abroad from Britain

There are two options for sending abroad mail weighing up to 2kg: airmail and surface mail. Airmail is simple and quick, whereas surface mail is cheaper but takes longer and may not be used for sending items to Europe.

Airmail postage for postcards and letters up to 20g is 37p to Europe; postcards to destinations outside Europe cost 42p. Surface mail postcards may only be sent outside Europe, and cost 37p. A detailed price list for airmail and surface mail is available from Post Offices.

Royal Mail aims to deliver Airmail items to Western Europe in 2 days following the day of posting; to Eastern Europe in 3 days and to countries outside Europe in 4 days. Surface mail sent outside Europe should arrive within 6 weeks.

All postal packets (excluding letters) to destinations outside the European Union are liable to examination by Customs authorities. It is important you check whether you need to fill in a Customs declaration before you post your package.

For further information about sending mail abroad, phone Royal Mail Customer Services on 08457 740 740 or see www.consignia-online.com.

Note: Postage prices are subject to change.
