Theatre Tickets

Theatre ticket prices vary widely, from about £10 in a small theatre to over £50 for the best seat at a top West End show. Check if the show offers concessionary rates. Those eligible for reduced prices or standby rates are usually senior citizens (over 60 years old), students, the unemployed or disabled customers. Proof of status is always required.
London Theatre Guide.

If using a ticket agency, choose one which advertises in newspapers or listings magazines like 'Time Out' or look out for members of the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR). Members include big agencies, such as Globaltickets, Stoll Moss Theatres and Ticketmaster. Phone the STAR helpline on (0870) 603 9011 for further information.

In London, the best place for cheap last-minute tickets is the 'tkts' booth in Leicester Square. Tickets are limited to four per applicant and a service charge of up to £2.50 is added. Ticket sales are by cash, credit card or Switch - cheques and travellers cheques are not accepted. tkts is open Monday to Saturday, 1000-1900, for matinee (afternoon) and evening tickets and Sunday, 1200 to 1500, for matinees only. Be prepared to queue!

When buying tickets always:
  • ask to see the ‘face value’ of the ticket (ticket agents charge a booking fee – which should be no more than 25% of the ‘face value’ of the ticket);

  • ask to see a seating plan;

  • ask if the seat has a restricted view (these seats should be cheaper); and

  • avoid signing any forms – you may be signing away your legal rights.

You are strongly advised not to buy tickets from touts outside of theatres: these tickets are often not genuine.
