An increasing number of visitors to Britain come in search of the locations featured in their favourite films and TV shows – a fact which the British Tourist Authority (BTA) hopes to promote with its Movie Maps.
Whether following in the footsteps of the stars of Bridget Jones’s Diary, The Full Monty or Braveheart, this campaign aims to ensure that movie fans have the necessary information to relive their favourite film and TV moments in Britain.

The campaign, which is supported by the Movie Map and Movie Map website, has proved to be one of the BTA’s most popular. It has run continuously since its launch in 1996.
New - On 19 November 2001, the BTA launched The Magic of Britain campaign to promote Britain through the blockbuster Warner Bros. film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The campaign will highlight film locations and a whole host of Britain’s most magical and mysterious attractions such as:
- Glastonbury
- Wookey Hole, Somerset.
- Tintagel Castle, Cornwall
- York City Centre
Due to the popularity of Britain as a location for the filming of Bollywood movies, the BTA has also produced a dedicated Bollywood Movie Map as a guide to the huge number of British locations which have graced the big screen – also a very popular campaign.
