UK City CultureIn January 2002, the British Tourist Authority (BTA) expanded its current City Culture marketing campaign to launch the UK City Experience campaign which highlights the exciting diversity of attractions to be found in 23 of Britain’s cities – such as Oxford’s dreaming spires, Cardiff’s sleek, futuristic waterside and Manchester’s buzzing nightclubs.

Whatever the interest of the visitor, they are likely to be spoilt for choice. For example, shopaholics are likely to be torn between the small specialist shops on York’s medieval streets and the vast, modern MetroCentre with over 350 shops, which can be enjoyed during a visit to Newcastle and Gateshead.

The UK City Experience campaign is designed to help the visitor to feel at home in Britain’s cities, even during a short break. Information featured in print material and the dedicated website includes:

Insider tips
From the basics such as discounted public transport, theatre tickets and entrance to attractions, to finding Britain’s oldest pub in the shadow of Nottingham Castle or Newcastle’s Jesmond Dene – the hidden piece of the countryside in the city centre.

Details of what has made Britain’s cities what they are today - from the influence of the Romans to that of the Royals.

City highlights
Culture, music, art, architecture - surround yourself in history or in the ultra-modern, or just watch the world go by.
