|  In January 2002, the British Tourist Authority (BTA) expanded its current City Culture marketing campaign to launch the UK City Experience campaign which highlights the exciting diversity of attractions to be found in 23 of Britain’s cities – such as Oxford’s dreaming spires, Cardiff’s sleek, futuristic waterside and Manchester’s buzzing nightclubs.
Whatever the interest of the visitor, they are likely to be spoilt for choice. For example, shopaholics are likely to be torn between the small specialist shops on York’s medieval streets and the vast, modern MetroCentre with over 350 shops, which can be enjoyed during a visit to Newcastle and Gateshead.
